Shares
Shares turn a saver into an owner. The more you hold, the greater your claim on the dividends declared each year.
Shareholding at a glance
Savings and shares are not the same thing
Both grow your position in HMC, but they do different work. Most members hold both.
Savings earn interest
Your savings are your own money held in the cooperative. They earn interest, they back your loan eligibility, and you can withdraw from them subject to the minimum balance.
Shares earn dividends
Shares are your ownership stake in HMC. They are not a savings balance to draw down. They entitle you to a share of the surplus the cooperative declares each year.
